This workshop for NELFT staff is aimed at those with little or no prior training in Indian Classical singing. The session will introduce this genre of music with the aim of developing an understanding of how this music can be incoporated into everyday lives to enhance emotional wellbeing. Participants will learn how to do mindful breathing techniques used in Indian classical singing and will learn how to warm up their vocal cords using traditional notes in varying orders. There will be a discussion on the therapeutic nature of singing and participants will have an opportunity to share their understanding of how music and singing in particular can have an impact on mood, behaviour and functioning. The session will include group singing using a set of notes arranged in a particular way to create a specific mood (Rag) and depending on progress, participants may have the opportunity to learn to sing part of a popular song.
