Presenting a melodious evening of Tagore songs and remembering the immortal creations of the great poet. Bithi Purkayastha and Tanusree Guha will be celebrating the 157th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore through the many moods of Rabindra Sangeet. Tagore’s songs continue to stir many emotions of our lives and the evening would touch upon these very thoughts spanning across nature, freedom, nationalism, feminism and love to name a few.
Bithi and Tanusree have performed together on numerous occasions in Kolkata and Mumbai in India, Rome (Italy) and in London, Oxford and Manchester.
Tanusree is trained in Hindustani Classical Music and Rabindra Sangeet. She has been learning music since the age of 4 and completed her training in India under Bhatkhande Music University in Hindustani Classical music and Bangiya Parishad in Rabindra Sangeet. She continues training with Smt Chandrima Misra and Mrs. Arati Bhattacharya here, in London. Tanusree regularly performs Rabindra Sangeet and various genres of Bengali songs and Indian music. Her repertoire includes live performances and shows on radio and television in India, various parts of Europe and England. She also specialises in vocal music as a part of multilingual world theatre
Bithi is a singer and music teacher who is known today as a very talented and popular Rabindra Sangeet singer. At the age of 6, she joined a part time music class at Bharatia Vidhya Bhavan where she studied classical as well as Rabindra Sangeet through Shyamoli Basu and completed her music diploma. Bithi has received specialist training in Rabindra Sangeet under the tutelage of Mrs Pompa Dhar Principal of "Nupur", and Sri Sudeb Guhathakurta, principal of Dakshinee Kolkata, and Sri Rano Guhathakurta, who is a renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer in Kolkata. Bithi has performed extensively in India, UK and USA in various prestigious venues. She has also launched her solo music album "Tomai Gaan Shonabo". Bithi runs her music school Rabi-Chhondo (Rhythm of Tagore), a school of Rabindrasangeet in London.
