The Hatha Yoga Project and Ayuryog research projects have been turned into comics!
In Roots of Hatha Yoga by Piero Macola, we follow the path of Dr James Mallinson, lecturer in Sanskrit and Classical Indian Studies at SOAS. When he was 17, Mallinson traveled across India for several months and became fascinated with the lifestyle of the Indian ascetics. Today he leads the Hatha Yoga Project which investigates the history and ethnography of physical yoga practices.
In Roots of Ayurveda by Alice Milani, we find the story of Dr Dagmar Wujastyk, an indologist travelling from Austria to India to meet a family of practitioners of Ayurveda. She will be accompanied on her trip by Atreya, a 452 years old sage, and his disciple Agnivesha… Dagmar Wujastyk leads the AyurYog project, which examines the histories of yoga, ayurveda and rasaśāstra (Indian alchemy and iatrochemistry) from the tenth century to the present, aiming to reveal the entanglements of these historical traditions and to trace the trajectories of their evolution.
Come to this event to see these entertaining and illuminating webcomics screened and performed live by members of both projects and by Alice Milani before a panel discussion between the researchers and artists.
ERCcOMICS is a project promoting ERC funded research projects through webcomics.
This event is free but booking is required.
