INDIA – UK Economic and Regulatory Perspectives

Current Trends, Societal Challenges and Post-Brexit Prospects

A 2 day multi-disciplinary and comparative Research Conference focusing on trade, business and regulations and their relations and impact on societal challenges. This event will include several panel discussions, an impact and networking workshop, and a book launch.

This Conference is jointly organised by the University of Portsmouth (UoP) and Democratic Citizenship (DC) Theme, and the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) of the National University of Singapore (NUS). Additional Partners are the Centre for International Trade and Investment Law, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, and the South Asian University (SAU), both based in New Delhi, India

The main objectives will be to establish a longer-term cooperation between the different institutions, working towards joint publications and funding bid applications. Conference papers will be taken together into an edited volume. Prof. Leïla Choukroune (UoP, DC Theme) and Dr. Amitendu Palit (ISAS, NUS) will edit the volume. The discussions from the Impact Workshop will be put together into a special report.

9:30-10:00 Theme Address India-UK Cooperation in the Post Brexit Era: Issues and Challenges

10:00-11:15 SESSION 1 - TRADE AND INVESTMENT

The session would reflect on current bilateral trade relations, pattern of cross-border FDI flows and other trade and investment related issues.

11:15-12:30 SESSION 2 - REGULATIONS

The emphasis would be on the prevailing rules and regulations in the fields of investment and commercial relations including rules impacting societal issues (CSR, Human Rights, Health, Anti-corruption)

12:30-14:00 NETWORKING LUNCH

14:00-15:15 SESSION 3 - DISPUTE SETTLEMENT – TRADE AND INVESTMENT

15:15-16:30 SESSION 4 - DISPUTE SETTLEMENT – COMMERCIAL

Friday 15 June

9:00-10:15 SESSION 5 - BUSINESS PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES

The session would look at the bilateral relations from the perspective of development finance, collaborative ventures like (e.g. skills, education) and case studies on enterprise experiences.
